We all should know by now how important a healthy diet is for maintaining beautiful, radiant skin. A delicious bone broth may help give you a stunning glow. Experts also now agree that food can have as much input into the cure as it does to the cause of some skin problems.
Eating your way to healthy skin means eating a diet rich in skin loving nutrients, full of vitamins and minerals to help maintain and protect cell health. The buzz drink at the moment that will do just this is bone broth, even though it’s been around for hundreds of years.
Nutrients Of Bone Broth
In case you’ve missed the hype on bone broth, here are just a few of the benefits for your skin:
The essential protein required for firm, healthy skin and protects the skin against ageing and fine lines. The gelatin derived from collagen helps to heal your digestive tract and reduces inflammation.
Helps your liver remove toxins out of your body, re-energise cells and protects against the signs of aging.
Including phosphorus, magnesium and calcium which help to reduce the signs of aging.
Health Benefits Of Bone Broth
I have read all about the wonders of bone broth and the fantastic health benefits for your gut and skin. Also learn about numerous celebrities singing its praises including Gwyneth Paltrow who calls it “winter’s miracle detox drink”, Elle MacPherson, Salma Hayek and athlete Kobe Bryant. I was still hesitant to give it a go. I think not being a huge meat eater; the name turned me off. But, under my motto “try everything once” I cooked up a batch last night using Andi Lew’s recipe, and I’m now a convert!
Her recipe was super easy and delicious. It’s a must-have in your “recipes for good health” arsenal! Andi was kind enough to let me share her excellent recipe from her new book Wellness Loading with our tribe.
Gut Healing Bone Broth
A healthy gut means glowing skin from your inside. Please note: this is what we used to call Jewish Penicillin because of the healing properties the broth gives to the gut. Organic Apple cider vinegar helps draw out collagen from the bones of the bird, and collagen repairs tissue. Bone broth helps to restore the lining of the stomach wall. It is perfect if you have a leaky gut syndrome or have had an overuse of medication recently. I use the Spiral Foods brand, but DO NOT forget the key ingredient when making this chicken soup/broth.
Also, make sure the quality of life the animal you use, has had no hormones, is organic and was free to roam.
- Whole organic, free range, hormone free chicken
- 1/2 cup Spiral Foods Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 celery sticks
- 2 carrots
- 1/2 pot alkalized water
- 1 bay leaf
- Pink salts of the earth
Put the whole bird in a pressure cooker or slow cooker, and fill with alkalized water until it covers the chicken. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook for at least 4-8 hours. Drink often, and even in the mornings instead of coffee.
Serve with buckwheat noodles or shitake noodles.
