BOTANI PRODUCTS

Do Botáni products contain Palm Oil?

Environmental issues are always at the forefront of Botani’s product development. Our ingredients are sourced from environmentally sustainable and ethical sources. Concern about Palm oil plantations in Indonesia is warranted and we are very pleased that you feel deeply about this. We are also horrified by this. When we learnt about the deforestation of the home of orangutans and the treatment of these precious animals we were as appalled as you are. Some suppliers of Palm Oil are following unsustainable practices, but this does not mean that all are. While our two body bars do contain Palm Oil, we only used RSPO certified Palm Oil – which is a fair trade, eco-friendly plantation in Columbia, South America. These communities’ livelihood are supported from this fair trade industry.

What is the difference between a serum and a moisturiser?

A serum is an oil-based product whereas moisturisers are water-based. Serums are generally more concentrated with ‘active’ ingredients that absorb into the skin. They generally deliver cell-communicating antioxidants to the deeper layers of the skin and perform critical reparative functions.Moisturisers lock moisture deep into the skin and keep the skin feeling fresh and hydrated all day.

Are Botáni Products safe to use while pregnant? Are they safe for baby?

At Botani, we understand that you want to take every precaution while you are pregnant. And for good reason. Over 60% of what we apply topically will be absorbed into our bodies!Using skincare products that are authentically natural is important. With Botani, you can rest assured that the products used on your face and body won’t harm baby in any way. Every product from Botáni is safe and 100% toxin free for you to use now and when the little one arrives. Many of our products are suitable for newborns – and all are 100% pregnancy and breastfeeding safe.

What does it mean that some Botani products are TGA listed?

Most skincare products are classified as ‘Cosmetics’ under the Australian regulations. However, there are other considerations for products that fall under a ‘therapeutic good’ – if they claim to provide a ‘therapeutic function’. For example, if a product ‘cleanses acne-prone skin or covers blemishes / helps with oiliness’ – this falls under Cosmetics guidelines. However, when a brand wants to claim that their product ‘prevents / stops / heals )pimples / acne / blemishes, this falls under the Therapeutic Goods Act. This impacts manufacturing, labelling and claims. We are proud to say that we have two products listed with the TGA – Rescue Acne Cream and Phytoseptic Anti-Fungal Skin Cream.

Are your products vegan friendly?

Botani products are 100% vegan and we are certified by PETA as Vegan and Cruelty Free. We do not use any animal ingredients in our products. Every product has been formulated with ingredients from the botanical world. Even Beeswax will not be found in our Balms!

Are Botani products suitable for men / Do you have a men’s line?

Yes, all Botani products are unisex and certainly suitable for men. With natural scents and aromas, men love using our products!

Are Botáni products gluten free?

Do Botani products contain nuts?

Botáni is committed to labelling transparently to enable everyone to make informed decisions, especially when there are allergies involved. Most of our products are nut free, however we do use Macadamia and Almond Oils in a few of our products. Please refer to our ingredient glossary here – and always check the ingredients listed on each product individually.

Why does my Botani product look or smell a little different from the last batch?

Botáni chooses only natural ingredients for all products. As with wine, there can be seasonal differences in natural ingredients in colour and fragrances. So, if you notice any slight difference, this is totally normal! Unless there is a foul smell or unsightly appearance, it is normal for natural ingredients to have a different colour from batch to batch.

How do I take the best care of my Botáni products?

Your natural products are more sensitive to light and heat, so please ensure that you close the lid tightly after applications. Products should be kept under 30o C. For warmer climates, we recommend you keep your Botáni products the fridge.

Why are you not certified organic?

We are at times questioned about organic certification and whether our products are organic. You may not be aware that many organisations in Australia offer certification and all have a different set of requirements that constitute “organic”. Currently, there is no regulatory body in this field to ensure there are standard and consistent regulations. We use many wonderful ingredients that happen to be certified organic (by Eco Cert, Australian Certified Organic and Organic Food Chain Australia), however we also source excellent quality raw ingredients from smaller providers of wildly-grown botanicals that are grown ‘organically’ however have not obtained certification due to cost / lack of resources. Also, we like to be transparent. We want our customers to understand how it works. If a cosmetic is ‘water based’, up to 70% of it may actually be water. Did you know that water as an ingredient, cannot be classified as organic. Therefore, if your product is 70% water, you would expect that the remaining 30% is organic. If you’re interested in finding out more details on organic certification, we encourage you to read a very informative article written by Derio Comar, who has over 35 years experience as a microbiologist and industrial chemist.

NO! From sourcing to distribution – none of our products are / will ever be tested on animals! We are committed to never supplying our products in countries that require mandatory animal testing for the sake of cosmetics. As Botáni products are designed for people, it is obvious that they need to be tested on people to know if they perform and give results. Our first line of testing products is our staff. Once we are all happy with the results of the product, then others are invited to test the products. Before the product is released, it is sent to independent laboratories for thorough in-vitro testing to ensure its safety and efficacy – you can read more about our testing here. Many of our happy customers even use Botáni products on their pets, because they have had such great results with them.
