Spring Clean Your Body From The Inside Out

Spring Clean Your Body

This month has been all about how to spring clean your body, but we've left one stone unturned- the body. This season, we're spring cleaning our bodies from the inside out. Your skin is often a direct reflection of what's going on inside your body, so a spring detox will give you the opportunity to sweep the toxins from your system and start with a fresh, cleansed canvas for a "lit from within" glow. The detox doesn't end there- we're ramping up our external body care for spring for a glow that radiates from top to toe. Will you be joining us? Here's how to spring clean your body from the inside out.

Step 1. Up Your Water Intake

This seems like a given, but drinking the right amount of water is essential during a detox of any kind. We're told to drink two litres each day (the equivalent of eight glasses), so ensure you maintain this year 'round, not just during your detox. Water plays a significant role in ensuring your body functions the way it should, with digestion being one of those vital bodily functions. If your body isn't digesting food properly, you won't be able to detox as effectively. To rev up the detoxifying powers of your water, pop some lemon slices into a large bottle to infuse the water. Lemon has been known to kickstart metabolism, allowing you to turn food into energy and burn off that energy quicker. While many DIY detoxes claim the powers of juice cleansing, juices are often high in sugar and low in fibre, which can cause more harm than good. If you want a bit of sweetness, fruit infused water is the way to go.

Step 2. Eat Plenty Of Fibre

Fibre, found in rich leafy greens (think kale, spinach, broccoli and rocket), brown rice, beetroot, quinoa, chia seeds and more, is a must in any detox. Fibre allows materials to move through the body, specifically the digestive system, working to "flush" toxins and any other nasties from the body.

Step 3. Sweat It Out

Another effective way of detoxing your body from the inside out is to sweat. We don't mean sitting in the sauna for hours on end, but exercising and building up a healthy sweat is a great way to sweep your system of toxins. When we get moving, we increase our heart rate and pump both blood and oxygen around our bodies, improving everything from the function of our digestive tract and kidneys through to our lungs and liver all of which help to release and eliminate toxins from our system. Our favourite way to get our body moving on a great detox this spring? Anything involving the great outdoors!

Step 4. Dry Body Brushing

As good for your outsides as it is for your insides, dry body brushing is the perfect way to shed your winter skin and emerge with a fresh spring glow. Dry body brushing boosts the body's lymphatic system, a system that works to sweep the body of toxins for a real "inner health" spring clean. Using a dry skin brush also gently exfoliates the skin, ridding your body of dead, dry, dull skin cells and leaving nothing but clean, glowing skin in its wake to ensure your skin looks as good as your body feels post-detox. It can also work to reduce the appearance of cellulite as the brushing motion stimulates circulation, eliminating the excess fluid that can make the skin look slightly lumpy. There's no one right way to dry body brush, but to boost your lymphatic drainage system, it's advised to brush in light, sweeping motions towards the heart. For further exfoliation, work our Spirulina Salt Scrub into the skin after brushing, then rinse off in the shower (this will also remove any dead skin cells that have come loose while brushing).

Step 5. Nourish Your Outsides

Now that your insides have been swept clean for the spring, it's time to ensure your outsides match. Hydrating your skin is particularly important if you do choose to implement dry body brushing, as the brushing can also strip off some of your skin's natural oil barrier. Our Nourishing Body Oil is rich in vitamins A, C and E to give your skin a stunning glow, ensuring your limbs look radiant and polished when the time comes to slip into your new spring wardrobe.
